Music
15cm high x 8cm wide. Clay as canvas.
High fired and functional, holds water.
Wash by hand. Story telling vessel, ceramic sculptural form.
The first, second and third photographs are the same vessel from different sides, front, back and side views. This handmade porcelain vessel or small vase has a story to tell. It is illustrated with a sketchbook observations of a person playing the saxophone, someone leaning in to listen and a girl with her headphones on, observed in a cafe. Recalling a time when we all get a chance to relax.
They are hand drawn and etched into the clay. The coloured lines are first etched into the clay and then filled with the inlay underglaze colour, also sgraffito, or scratched lines to reveal the background colour is used and thin colour washes painted as decoration.
This Porcelain People series is hand built from slabs rather than the potter’s wheel. It has a clear transparent glaze on the interior and on the exterior too. It carriers the maker’s mark, as the signature.
