An image from an exhibition that I held at New Hall College in Cambridge in 1999. So many moons and paintings ago. It’s been a ride, I now have twin daughters a kiln and a small art school all at my home/studio in Finchley, London.
Gail Altschuler’s compositions sometimes refer to landscapes and cityscapes. She finds her inspiration, however, in “music, woven fabrics from a variety of cultures, other artists’ work and observation from nature”. She continues: “I am interested in exploring the power of colour on the spectator. The intense colours I use are woven together to create moods and atmospheres that relate to my memories and experiences of Africa, Europe and the United Kingdom. I have been using the theme of the ‘Weave’ for a number of years, as a symbol of order, harmony and integration. The ‘Weave’ also relates to the artistic preoccupations of women throughout the ages.”
