This handmade porcelain vessel has a story to tell. It is illustrated with a sketchbook observations of a children playing on the beach that I repeatedly draw when we have visited Spain on summer holidays. Recalling the time of year when we get a chance to relax.
They are hand drawn and etched into the clay. The coloured lines are first etched into the clay and then filled with the inlay underglaze colour, called Mishima, by the Japanese, also sgraffito, or scratched lines to reveal the background colour is used and thin colour washes painted as decoration.
This Porcelain People series is hand built from slabs rather than the potter’s wheel. It has a clear transparent glaze on the interior and on the exterior too.
It carriers the maker’s mark as the signature.
