This handmade porcelain vessel or small vase has a story to tell. It is hand drawn and etched into the clay, illustrated with a sketchbook observation of children at play, or sisters noticing the tame ducks, that I drew on a holiday. Recalling a relaxing family time.The relaxed poses are something we can all recall.
Gail combines coloured line etching and inlay, called Mishima, by the Japanese, also sgraffito, or scratched lines to reveal the background colour and thin colour wash painting in the decoration. This Porcelain People series is hand built from slabs rather than the potter’s wheel.
It has a clear transparent glaze on both the interior and the exterior
It carriers the maker’s mark, as the signature. these vessels look great in groups, too.
